Anaheim is a city outside Los Angeles, in Southern California. It's home to the Disneyland Resort, a massive complex of family-friendly, Disney-themed rides, restaurants, hotels and shops. The city's also home to pro sports teams. The Honda Center is the indoor arena where the Anaheim Ducks hockey team plays, and Angel Stadium is the home field of the Los Angeles Angels baseball team.
Anaheim was founded by fifty&nbsp;German families&nbsp;in 1857 and&nbsp;incorporated&nbsp;as the second city in&nbsp;Los Angeles County&nbsp;on March 18, 1876;&nbsp;Orange County was split off from Los Angeles County in 1889. Anaheim remained largely an agricultural community until&nbsp;Disneyland&nbsp;opened in 1955. This led to the construction of several hotels and motels around the area, and residential districts in Anaheim soon followed. The city also developed into an industrial center, producing electronics, aircraft parts and canned fruit. Anaheim is a&nbsp;charter city.
Anaheim's city limits extend almost the full width of Orange County, from&nbsp;Cypress&nbsp;in the west, twenty miles east to the&nbsp;Riverside County&nbsp;line, encompassing a diverse range of neighborhoods. In the west, mid-20th-century&nbsp;tract houses&nbsp;predominate.&nbsp;Downtown Anaheim&nbsp;has three mixed-use historic districts, the largest of which is the Anaheim Colony. South of downtown, a center of commercial activity of regional importance begins, the&nbsp;Anaheim&ndash;Santa Ana edge city, which stretches east and south into the cities of Orange, Santa Ana and Garden Grove. This&nbsp;edge city&nbsp;includes the&nbsp;Disneyland Resort, with two theme parks, multiple hotels, and&nbsp;its retail district; Disney is part of the larger&nbsp;Anaheim Resort&nbsp;district with numerous other hotels and retail complexes. The&nbsp;Platinum Triangle, a neo-urban&nbsp;redevelopment&nbsp;district surrounding&nbsp;Angel Stadium, which is planned to be populated with mixed-use streets and high-rises. Further east, Anaheim Canyon is an industrial district north of the&nbsp;Riverside Freeway&nbsp;and east of the&nbsp;Orange Freeway. The city's eastern third consists of&nbsp;Anaheim Hills, a community built to a master plan, and open land east of the&nbsp;Route 241&nbsp;tollway.

Orange is a city located in Orange County, California. It is approximately 3 miles north of the county seat, Santa Ana. Orange is unusual in this region because many of the homes in its Old Town District were built prior to 1920.

Mission Viejo (/vi?e?ho?/) is a commuter city located within Orange County, California, United States in the Saddleback Valley. Mission Viejo is considered one of the largest master-planned communities ever built under a single project in the United States and is rivaled only by Highlands Ranch, Colorado in its size. Its population as of 2018 was estimated at 95,202.
Mission Viejo is&nbsp;suburban&nbsp;in nature and culture. The city consists of residential property, although there are a number of offices and businesses within the limits of the city. The city is known for its tree-lined neighborhoods, receiving recognition from the&nbsp;National Arbor Day Foundation. The city's name is a reference to&nbsp;Rancho Mission Viejo, a large Spanish land grant from which the community was founded.
Mission Viejo was purchased by John Forster, also known as "Don Juan," an Englishman by birth who became a Mexican citizen. During the Mexican&ndash;American War, Forster provided fresh horses to United States military forces which were used on the march of San Diego to invade Los Angeles.
Mission Viejo was a hilly region primarily used as cattle and sheep grazing land, since it was of little use to farmers. This city was one of the last regions of Orange County to be urbanized due to its geologic complexity. In 1960, early developers dismissed most of the land in Mission Viejo as simply "undevelopable".
Donald Bren, an urban planner who later became the president of the Irvine Company, drafted a master plan which placed roads in the valleys and houses on the hills, and contoured to the geography of the area. The plan worked, and by 1980 much of the city of Mission Viejo was completed. During the late 1970s and the 1980s, houses in Mission Viejo were in such high demand that housing tracts often sold out before construction even began on them. The houses and shopping centers in the city are almost uniformly designed in a Spanish mission style, with "adobe"-like stucco walls and barrel-tile roofs. Many point to Mission Viejo as the first and largest manifestation of Bren's obsession with Spanish architecture. Bren's company was also the creator of the developments in Irvine and Newport Beach. The company expanded its operations and went on to build the Lakes project in Tempe, Arizona, Mission Viejo Aurora in Colorado and was the initial master planner of Highlands Ranch, both in the Denver Metropolitan area.
